Set in Bucharest during the last days of the Ceausescu regime in 1989.

When strong-willed Eva gets expelled from school and sent to a reformatory, she meets Andrei, a boy who is determined to flee the regime. She agrees to leave with him. Lalalilu, Eva’s little brother, who frequently gets sick with fevers, sets in motion his plan to kill Ceausescu, whom he blames for Eva’s leaving and for all the family’s troubles.

Although the surrounding subject matter is serious, the film has a whimsical and dreamlike quality, the world as seen through the eyes of a seven year old boy.

106 min.
