The Men Who Stare at Goats (American) 2009

Based on Jon Ronson’s book, an account of an investigation

Winner, Actor of the Year (Clooney), Central Ohio Film Critics Award

Directed by Grant Heslov
Starring George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges

A moderately funny, tongue-in-cheek look at a U.S. military unit commissioned to investigate possible use of psychic powers. When reporter Bob Wilton (McGregor) meets up with Lyn Cassady (Clooney), he gets a crash course in the workings of the U.S. Army’s New Earth Army.

Not a big award-winner (see above), and I started watching this film with a skeptical attitude. But with actors well-matched to their roles, I enjoyed the inanity of the story, which is reportedly based on real events. Be sure to watch the special features selection about the First Earth Battalion. πŸ™‚

94 min. Rated R. Language, drug use, and brief nudity.
